What should we ask from God?
When prayers are not answered, we grumble; we lose hope and we question. Jesus
said in Luke 11: 9... "ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find;
knock and the door will be opened to you. For every one who asks receives; he
who seeks finds; and to him who knocks, the door will be opened."
In spite of this promise existing for our sake why do our prayers go unanswered?
There are several reasons as to why our prayers go unanswered. One of them is
because we ask amiss. There is great danger in asking something that is not in
the Will of God. May be our demand is like the demand of the mother of Zebedee's
children, who asked that her two sons be seated with the God, one on the right
side and the other on the left side. Or, may be our prayers are offered with our
hearts full of sin.
Our iniquities have separated us from our God. We may have lied or our tongues
may have muttered wicked things. Let us be careful. Let us clear our hearts
first. Let Jesus dwell in our hearts. Many a time we keep on asking for a need,
which may not be in the Will of God,
God may grant the request to us if we keep persisting him to on our own way. In
such cases the it will not be a blessing to us
It was not in the will of God to make Saul as the King for Israelites.
Nevertheless because Israelites kept on demanding for a king God gave them a
king. Later, Israelites repented for having Saul as their king. It was not in
the will of God, to spare the city of Zoar from judgment just as Sodom and
Gomorrah was judged. The city was spared because of Lot's prayer. Lot settled in
Zoar and finally became the patriarch of two wicked generations, Moabites and
Ammonites.
Balaam got permission to go to Moab, against the will of God, but it was not for
blessing. He sat on his ass and started his journey. But the ass did not move.
He whipped the ass several times, and the angel of the Lord, who was obstructing
their way, put words in the mouth of the ass, and the ass asked Balaam as to
what mistake it had done, and claimed its sincerity to Balaam. Soon Balaam's
eyes were opened and he realized God's presence there and he saw the angel of
the Lord obstructing his way. The angel told him that, but for the presence of
ass there, Balaam would have received injuries. In spite of this, Balaam went
and saw Baalak, who wanted Balaam to curse Israelites. But whenever Balaam
opened his mouth to speak, he could utter only the blessings. May we analyze as
to whether we are fighting against the will of God.
The greatest observation we could make is in Jesus Christ, who being the Son of God, did not fight against the will of Father in heaven.
In Gethsemane, in His prayer Jesus, who being THE VERY SON OF GOD, prayed to God the Father to remove the cup of sorrow, IF POSSIBLE, nevertheless, He wished that it should not be according to His own Will but in accordance with THE FATHER IN HEAVEN.
Dear Friend,
There is great danger in asking amiss. Seek the will of God, depend on him and
do as he guides.
