JOHN BEHEADED

Mark 6:14-29

And king Herod heard of him; (for his name was spread abroad:) and he said, That John the Baptist was risen from the dead, and therefore mighty works do show forth themselves in him. Others said, It is Elijah. And others said, It is a prophet, or as one of the prophets. But when Herod heard of it, he said, It is John, whom I beheaded: he is risen from the dead. For Herod himself had sent forth and laid hold upon John, and bound him in prison for Herodias' sake, his brother Philip's wife: for he had married her. For John had said unto Herod, It is not lawful for you to have your brother's wife. Therefore Herodias had a quarrel against him, and would have killed him; but she could not: For Herod feared John, knowing that he was a just man and holy, and protected him; and when he heard him, he did many things, and heard him gladly. And when an opportune day was come, Herod on his birthday made a supper for his lords, high captains, and chief men of Galilee; And when the daughter of the said Herodias came in, and danced, and pleased Herod and them that sat with him, the king said unto the girl, Ask of me whatsoever you will, and I will give it to you. And he swore unto her, Whatsoever you shall ask of me, I will give it to you, unto the half of my kingdom. And she went forth, and said unto her mother, What shall I ask? And she said, The head of John the Baptist. And she came in immediately with haste unto the king, and asked, saying, I will that you give me at once on a platter the head of John the Baptist. And the king was exceedingly sorry; yet for his oath's sake, and for their sakes who sat with him, he would not reject her. And immediately the king sent an executioner, and commanded his head to be brought: and he went and beheaded him in the prison, And brought his head on a platter, and gave it to the girl: and the girl gave it to her mother. And when his disciples heard of it, they came and took up his corpse, and laid it in a tomb.

Dear Brother/Sister,

King Herod heard of the fame of Jesus that he was doing miracles and thought that Jesus was John and he rose from the dead. Some others said, he was Elias the Prophet. It was a wrong impression that Herod carried mainly because he feared John the Baptist, whom he killed for the sake of Herodia. Herodia was the wife of his brother Philip. Herod married illegally Herodia and when this unlawful deed was pointed out by John the Baptist, Herodias quarreled with him and demanded that he be killed but she could not do that. Herod did never wanted to do any harm to John the Baptist because he heard good of John the Baptist and knew that he was a just and holy man. But then on a convenient day when there was a birthday party arranged of Herodia with important invitees such as lords, high captains, and chief estates of Galilee, Herodia’s daughter danced and pleased Herod and all that sat at the party. Herod asked the damsel to make any request, which he promised to grant to her. The damsel went and asked her mother, Herodia, as to what she should ask from Herod. Herodia availed this opportunity to take vengeance against her enemy, John the Baptist, and not losing this opportunity; she said to her daughter to demand the head of the John the Baptist. The damsel hastened and went and said to Herod to get the head of the John the Baptist in a platter. The king was exceedingly disappointed and sorry but for his oath’s sake, he had John beheaded and gave the head of the John the Baptist to the damsel, who gave it to her mother Herodia. His disciples came and took the corpse and laid it in a tomb and Jesus who was there in that region left that region

If you have thought that it is bed of roses to live a Christian life, you are mistaken. God will not change the world for our sake, but He will certainly deliver us from the evil of this world. The lust of Herodias wife to have John, ended in the death of John. We are created to worship our God, through the name of Jesus Christ, and to earn for ourselves a worthy place in heaven. We are pilgrims in this world. We encounter problems, and often we cry to God, as to why He is allowing such problems in our Lives. Nevertheless, whatever happens, happens with His Knowledge. Let us not believe Jesus in the hope of becoming rich in this world, but believe in Him, hoping to become rich in the world to come. This world belongs to Satan and his followers. Thanks to God, in the name of His Son Jesus Christ for the salvation He has given us free of cost. If you have not confessed your sins until now, it is my request to you, not to waste any more time, but to repent of your sins, and accept Jesus Christ as your personal Savior and Lord. He is coming soon.

Let the name of the Lord be glorified. I praise you my Lord my God for the salvation you gave to me.

Jesus Christ died on the cross of Calvary, was buried and was raised on the third day. He ascended in to heaven. He is the high priest in heaven [Heb 4:14-18] “Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God”. John 3:3 They parted his garments, they scourged him, they hurled insults on him and crucified along with two thieves; yet Jesus was so kind on those who crucified them. “Then said Jesus, Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do. And they parted his raiment, and cast lots”. Luke 23:34 Jesus also forgave one of the thieves who was crucified along with him, when the thief made prayer to him to remember him when Jesus comes into His Kingdom. Jesus immediately to him, “And Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto thee, To day shalt thou be with me in paradise”. Luke 23:43 But on the third day Jesus rose from the dead and after providing purification for our sins ascended to heaven and is seated at the right of the Majesty. 1 Thessalonians 4:14 "For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him".

Jesus died upon the cross of Calvary so that we may be reconciled unto Him. There is no difference, whether we are Jews or Gentiles; He died for all of us, and rose from the dead and ascended in to heaven. We, who were His enemies, are made His children. The opposition that was caused between Heaven and Earth by our committing sins is removed once and for all, by the appeasement of our sins by Jesus Christ dying on the cross for our sake. We are reconciled unto God through His blood that was shed upon the cross of Calvary. Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me". John 14:6 "For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;" Romans 3:23
