Crafty Pharisees

So they watched him, and sent spies, who pretended to be sincere, that they might take hold of what he said, so as to deliver him up to the authority and jurisdiction of the governor. They asked him, "Teacher, we know that you speak and teach rightly, and show no partiality, but truly teach the way of God. Is it lawful for us to give tribute to Caesar, or not?"

But he perceived their craftiness, and said to them, "Show me a coin. Whose likeness and inscription has it?" They said, "Caesar's." He said to them, "Then render to Caesar the things that are Caesar's, and to God the things that are God's."

Luke 20:19-26 And the chief priests and the scribes the same hour sought to lay hands on him; and they feared the people: for they perceived that he had spoken this parable against them. And they watched him, and sent forth spies, who should pretend themselves just men, that they might take hold of his words, that so they might deliver him unto the power and authority of the governor. And they asked him, saying, Teacher, we know that you say and teach rightly, neither do you regard any person, but teach the way of God truly: Is it lawful for us to give tribute unto Caesar, or not? But he perceived their craftiness, and said unto them, Why do you test me? Show me a penny. Whose image and superscription has it? They answered and said, Caesar's. And he said unto them, Render therefore unto Caesar the things which are Caesar's, and unto God the things which are God's. And they could not take hold of his words before the people: and they marveled at his answer, and held their peace.

The Pharisees and Sadducees always tried to catch him on the wrong foot. Now this time they watched Jesus and pretended to be sincere. They asked Him a tricky question. They asked him is it lawful to give taxes to Government. They knew that if He answered “Yes”, then they would catch Him, saying why should they give to Government their hard earned money, and if said, “No”, they would catch Him, saying He is saying something against Government. Nevertheless, Jesus Christ, knowing their craftiness, asked them to show Him a coin. After asking them whose inscription was their on the coin, Jesus asked them to give to Government what is due to Government, and to God, what is due to God.

Brother/Sister,

Are we giving what is due to Government as also what is due to God. It is very important that we give to God, what is due unto Him. God asked us to test Him, by giving Him, what is due unto Him, and see if He does not give to us, more than our barns can fill it.

Please accept Jesus Christ as your personal Savior and as your Lord. Taste and see the love of God.

God bless you
