THE GREAT FLOOD: NOAH SAVED
Apostle Paul writes in 2 Peter 2:5 “And spared not the old world, but saved Noah the eighth person, a preacher of righteousness, bringing in the flood upon the world of the ungodly;”
What is this old world Paul was writing about, and who is that Noah, whom God saved? It is interesting to note that God saved while He decided to destroy the whole old world, He decided to save a righteous person, a preacher.
The story goes back to Genesis chapter 5, when the old world before the flood was full of sin and God decided save only Noah one of the eight members of his family. Noah was righteous before God and that was the reason He had to cut off the wicked old world at that point of Noah’s time and start afresh new generations.
Noah was forewarned by God about the destruction God was going to bring about on the whole wicket old world because of the intolerable sin they were in. as we read in Genesis 6:1-3 “And it came to pass, when men began to multiply on the face of the earth, and daughters were born unto them, That the sons of God saw the daughters of men that they were fair; and they took them wives of all which they chose. And the LORD said, My spirit shall not always strive with man, for that he also is flesh: yet his days shall be an hundred and twenty years”.
The Bible says God was very sorry for creating man when He saw the sins they were committing, as we read in Genesis 6:6 “And it repented the LORD that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him at his heart”.
God said to Noah as recorded in, “Genesis 6:14 Make thee an ark of gopher wood; rooms shalt thou make in the ark, and shalt pitch it within and without with pitch.” And then God asked Noah to bring in “And of every living thing of all flesh, two of every sort shalt thou bring into the ark, to keep them alive with thee; they shall be male and female. Of fowls after their kind, and of cattle after their kind, of every creeping thing of the earth after his kind, two of every sort shall come unto thee, to keep them alive. And take thou unto thee of all food that is eaten, and thou shalt gather it to thee; and it shall be for food for thee, and for them. Thus did Noah; according to all that God commanded him, so did he.” Genesis 6:19-22
Noah’s faith saved him, his family along with the fowls, animals as God chose them.
“By faith Noah, being warned of God of things not seen as yet, moved with fear, prepared an ark to the saving of his house; by the which he condemned the world, and became heir of the righteousness which is by faith” Hebrews 11:7
Genesis 7:16-18 And they that went in, went in male and female of all flesh, as God had commanded him: and the LORD shut him in. And the flood was forty days upon the earth; and the waters increased, and bare up the ark, and it was lift up above the earth. And the waters prevailed, and were increased greatly upon the earth; and the ark went upon the face of the waters.
God shut them in Ark a safe place for them when God was showing his anger on the wicked world. There was flood for forty days and all “All in whose nostrils was the breath of life, of all that was in the dry land, died”. . Genesis 7:22
